Every parishioner who lives in a village or town has the right to be buried in their local parish churchyard if in current use, regardless of religious denomination and faith. Burials occurring in other Parish Churchyards are at the discretion and special permission of local incumbents/Church Councils. There are however no such exclusions when it comes to Council & Public Cemeteries; anyone who wishes to be buried in any public Cemetery, can do so ~ although, there may be an extra charge if you do not live in the same parish as the Cemetery.
It is worth noting that graves must be left at least six months to allow the ground to settle before a Memorial Headstone may be placed (unless ashes only are being interred).
Natural Burial Sites are becoming more popular and are by nature more environmentally friendly. In Norfolk we have two such sites: Colney Wood Burial Park in Norwich and Bluebell Wood in Hainford Near Norwich. For more information click the link below or go to our 'Resources' page

With beliefs and attitudes ever changing Direct Cremation is becoming ever more in demand. This is a cremation without any Ceremony at a Crematorium, and is for those who would prefer a no fuss funeral or committal.
This is also a option for those wishing to have a service elsewhere for example at a Church, our Gathering Room here at Weasenham or any other venue, but would rather not attend a cremation service either afterwards or prior the service or Celebration of Life.

There are a number of regulations relating to churchyards, particularly regarding the placement and care of memorials, made by the Chancellor of the Diocese of Norwich.
Revd. Sally Kimmis has produced this helpful leaflet explaining what is and is not permitted in a Churchyard.
